A little liquid sunshine . . . wheatgrass!

Did you know that wheatgrass is known as a miracle cure for everything that ails you??  That's right.  People have claimed that wheatgrass is the fountain of youth, is an appetite suppressant, improves digestion, purifies the liver and even keeps your hair from graying.  Just think of the time and money you could save at the beauty salon?!  Now don't run out and chew on some wheatgrass, because it isn't quite that simple.  First you have to find a good deal on some wheatgrass seeds also known as wheat berries or red wheat berries.  You can find them in bulk foods in your neighborhood health food store.  I found them at Sprouts Market.  Anyway, get yourself a planter, some organic soil, maybe some steer manure (plants love it), mix that soil up good and throw the soil in the planter.  Take your wheat berries and soak them in water for 24 hours.  I had sprouts coming out of the wheat berries within 24 hours!  Next, sow the soaked wheat berries in
the soil, cover with about 1 inch of soil and water.  The next problem you may encounter are some friendly visits from your bird neighbors.  They must be up in the trees watching me plant, because shortly afterward my bird neighbors are digging around in the planter eating those tasty wheat berries that are just ripe for the pickins'.  Despite the bird visits I grew a nice crop that was ready for harvest in about 1 week when the wheatgrass is about 3 inches tall, but not more than 6 inches.  People can't digest wheatgrass, which is actually a wonderful thing.  I would hate to be grazing like a cow in the backyard.  So the next thing you need is a heavy duty juicer.  The average juicer can't process wheatgrass and may burn up the motor.  So I have an Omega Professionalf Grade Juicer and that thing would juice anything and then some.  I add some carrots with the harvested wheatgrass and have a tastly little cocktail . . . I'm sure you could add vodka if you were so inclined.  Ta-da -- liquid sunshine.  You can grow wheatgrass in a container inside or out in temperatures above 60 degrees; it does not grow well when sowed in the ground.  Hmmmmm.  I wonder where the first wheatgrass grew.  At any rate, the chlorophyll in wheatgrass is thought to have antibiotic properties and inhibits the activity of some carcinogens.  The news just keeps getting better, doesn't it?!  So have some fun and plant some wheatgrass . . . . Na strovia!!
